Collects the first six issues but the prime issue is NOT included as described. There are two story arcs so the pacing is very quick. The downside is that the result is mostly action with no real driving story. Find bad guys, beat them up, new menace pops up, and beat that up too. The plus side includes Kat Pryde leading the X-Men and the team includes old favorites along with "new" members such as Armor and Stone. Despite not having the Prime issue, a good beginning to the series.
Collects:---X-Men Gold 1-6Bonus: Variant Cover GalleryThe X-Men teams were rebooted after the Inhumans Vs. X-Men event. The Gold team, led by Kitty Pryde, finds itself located in Central Park and fighting familiar enemies including a racist anti-mutant demagogue, a super powered sentinel, and a revamped Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. While there was nothing especially new about the fight, the roster that includes Rachel Grey (Prestige), Nightcrawler, Colossus, Logan, and Storm certainly collects some of the best X-characters in one place. Kitty Pryde's leadership role was especially well-written as was her troubled relationship with fellow X-Man, Colossus. There were even a few moments of humor that had this reader laughing (notably when the team is presented with property tax bill for their new location in Central Park!).The classic roster (and the absence of annoyingly still time-displaced young original X-Men) make the Gold volume far superior to the ongoing sister X-Men Blue Vol. 1: Strangest . In the absence of the time-honored "Uncanny X-Men", X-Men Gold seems like it will be the new flagship title for X-fans.I look forward to follow this team in X-Men Gold Vol. 2: Evil Empires
Well there's quite a bit of controversy regarding this issue but I won't get into that here. The story seems to be building towards something. And in a way this issue kinda reminds me of the older comics I grew up reading. That's a good thing. But just how rich was prof X? Kitty didn't really seem too freaked out about that 18 million dollar bill! Why hasn't Peter moved on and which Nightcrawler is that on this team? I guess later issues will answer these questions?
Terrible characterization and cringey dialogue. If you dont absolutely love Kitty Pryde this wont be very entertaining.Art is ok.
This was an iteration of X-Men I enjoyed, and X-Men is my favorite group of Marvel characters. I struggled to believe their characterization or the dialogue. I wanted badly to love the moments with Kitty and Colossus, but they were difficult to be vested in. It's a beginning, so it's possible that the story arc becomes solid, but unless the dialogue improves I don't have much interest in the series. I thought the art was really nice, and that's why I'm giving it three stars instead of two. Nothing offended me, I just couldn't bring myself to care.
Great read. Brings me back to what the group's was in the late 80s. Cant wait for more
While focusing on a team built around Excalibur and late 80s/early 90s X-men make a lot of sense in X-men Gold, one feels like maybe the narrative weight of last two decades of X-men comics is weakening any version of the House of X properties. I do like Kitty Pryde as a focus and the re-imagining of Rachel Summers, the book seems to struggle to find its identity and narrative thrust.
Good, but not without it's flaws. The team of X-Men works pretty decently together, and I love the idea of Kitty Pryde as the leader, that made for an interesting read. My biggest complaint would probably be regarding the Brotherhood of Mutants, though. Not going to give away any details, but overall, I did NOT like the direction they took them.
