After studying English Literature in college, she worked as an instructor with the Boulder Outdoor Survival School in Boulder, Utah, and is currently training horses at liberty and exploring the canyons of the Wasatch Front. I love all the detailed information about learning how to truly enjoy hiking with your dog, as well as the wealth of information about the many beautiful spaces in Utah. Nicole is a genuine expert on Utah and dogs. She provides invaluable information about making the most of the dog/owner relationship, while always putting safety first. I feel the hikes detailed in this book would also be enjoyable without a dog, however, hiking with your dog or your friends dog makes for an even better experience!
This is the best book I have found for hiking in Utah - with or without dogs. It is very easy to read and follow and provides very valuable insights into the hike - including where water holes are for the dogs. I loved the pictures and the turn by turn directions to get you there and home safely.
Very well researched and informative while being an entertaining read. A valuable resource for taking your pups on a hike in Utah's diverse landscape, with very clear hiking directions and useful insight, like where to find water for your dogs, flora to observe, and where to catch a view.

This is THE resource for hiking with dogs in Utah. The hikes are diverse and spread across the state allowing you and your pup to experience all that Utah has to offer. I’ve hiked all over Utah, and many of my favorite hikes are in this book, but I’ve also found new hikes because of this book (Hunter Canyon is a new fav!).It includes easy hikes and multi day adventures and everything in between from high mountain to desert and slot canyon. It’s informative about the history and geography of each area and very enjoyable to read. Clearly the author cares deeply about dogs and the state and has shared her love of both in this book.I’ve learned so much about hiking in my home state and would highly recommend this book to anyone hiking in Utah!
